Valley Bank became involved with Children's Miracle Network (CMN) in 2006 when we were approached by Mix 96, a local radio station, to consider becoming title sponsor of the CMN Radiothon. CMN is the coalition of premier children's hospitals which provide state-of-the-art care, life-saving research and preventative education for children 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, treating 17 million children for every disease and injury imaginable. During our consideration, we visited Iowa City and toured the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. During that tour, we were impressed by the level of service that the children receive, moved by the compassion of the staff and saddened by the stories of the children who lost their battles. We knew that we wanted to partner with this great organization to do all that we could to help the children in the hospital. We became title sponsor of the radiothon that year and sold teddy bears in our branches to help raise funds.

In 2007, we expanded our relationship with CMN by delivering flowers for Mother's Day, cookies for Father's Day, selling cookbooks and lions, and helping at a CMN golf outing. We enjoyed being able to help at the hospital and raising money through sales of cookbooks and lions, but we wanted to do even more. We were compelled to put together a fundraiser for CMN that would not only raise funds, but also bring more awareness to the Quad Cities and surrounding communities about the need for support.

In the summer of 2007, a committee of four staff from Valley Bank created Runway to Healing. Runway to Healing is a fundraiser benefiting the University of Iowa Children's Hospital through Children's Miracle Network. In 2009, children from the Quad Cities and surrounding communities accounted for 21,537 patient encounters at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. All of the money donated from Runway to Healing stays in Iowa City.
